Flooding Risks & Social Vulnerability Nexus – A case study of Kampala, Uganda
The paper was presented at the ResNexus 2018 Conference at the Wageningen University (NL) on 8 November 2018.
The concept of the urban resilience nexus encompasses various sectors of the urban dynamics and aims for a better understanding of linkages and interplays. This paper looks at these interrelations, mainly of water, the environment, and provision of basic services in Kampala and how they are – in combination with the exposure to climate change-related risks, varying levels of social vulnerability as well as infrastructure- and socio-economic sensitivity – unequally distributed in the city and stress the already most marginalised groups further, with the objective to provide a foundation for better policy interventions.
